When introduced to this project, I had no idea what to expect, only that I was about to experience environments that could become part of my everyday life. Unfortunately having only seen and understood four of these practises I was unable to get a true insight to all of the practices.
The first practice introduced to us by Bethany Wells; Architecture 00:/, was a small practice. By the end of the presentation it was clear that this was a small practice however the concepts behind her small scale installations were more socially interactive on a personal level than any idea a large scale practice could explore. I was amazed at how the installations had such a close connection with the public and their environment through her concepts and simple materials such as the outdoor sauna.
Following our taster into Bethany’s practice, was a visit to the What_Architecture practice which turned out to be a really welcoming and communal atmosphere; not what I had expected considering its client unfriendly entrance. In my opinion this was a great environment to work in as the employees seemed to focus on working as a team and it appeared to be busy and vibrant with models in an organised mess similar to the state of mind I would expect from an architect.
Our next visit took us to the Roca gallery where we were drawn to a very organically shaped space designed by Zaha Hadid architects (Medium practice). The construction of this space had taken a huge journey to satisfy the client as much as their own practice which I believe was a good balance for the success of the project. The concept fulfils its use as much as it fulfils Zaha Hadids expectations.
Overall, my experiences through this project have been better than I expected and having seen an architecture practice in person for the first time has been a true eye opener. Witnessing a number of functioning practices and successful projects has shed light on an environment that I have always wanted to discover.
